Abstract

Us Heit cannot be a vocative in Frisian. Us Heit (yn 'e himel), therefore, cannot
serve as a translation of the beginning of the Lords's Prayer in Matthew VI 9:13.
The Frisian Bible translators, though, have clearly interpreted it as a vocative,
judging from the continuations (dy't yn de himelen binne and lit jo namme hillige
wurde respectively). These renderings would only be correct if the word Us ('our')
were omitted.
