De Friese plantnaam Juffer Lizeblom te Burgum

Abstract

In several sources the plant name Juffer Lizeblom is exclusively given for Burgum as
the local name for bearbind (Calystegia sepium (L.) R. Br.), as well as for white campion (Melandrium album (Mill.) Garcke) and night-flowering catchfly
(Melandrium noctiflorum Fr.). The origin of this plant name, which is based on a local toponym, proves that the identification with bearbind and white campion is incorrect.
