Frysk fernimme as in a.c.i.-tiidwurd
Abstract
In this squib some special properties of the verb fernimme ‘to perceive, to sense’ in Frisian are discussed. Since this verb has the semantics of a perceptional verb, it has, for some speakers of Frisian, acquired the syntactic subcategorization of these verbs as well. The exceptional behaviour of fernimme as an a.c.i.-verb - it is only allowed in this use, if it appears in the Verb Second position - offers an interesting perspective on the phenomenon of Verb Raising or verb clustering. It seems to provide evidence for the claim that verb clusters are formed in the lexicon.
