Optimaliteit van hervormingen en experimenten in de Friese orthografie
Abstract
A survey of constraints on orthography is presented on the basis of BirgitKellner’s study of Frisian spelling reforms and spelling experiments. This
way, a review of Kellner’s work is combined with an introduction of
Optimality Theory to this area of investigation. One of the advantages of the
approach of spelling and spelling reforms in terms of Optimality Theory is
that this theory provides a framework for the description of conflicting
factors. Variation and change receive a more adequate description than in
earlier generative frameworks.
