Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • I am aware of and agree with the publication of my article being licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution License-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0)

Author Guidelines

POTCJ publishes articles in all international Englishes. Articles that are considered suitable for the journal by the editorial board are double-blind peer reviewed by external peer-reviewers. ‘Unusuals’—denoting submissions in non-traditional formats—are reviewed by the editors.

Citations must be formatted according to the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (author-date). Preferred file formats are .docx or .rtf.

Maximum size of contributions, including notes and bibliographic references:

  1. Articles: 6000 words;
  2. Book Reviews: 2000 words;
  3. Unusuals: Submissions in multimedia, experimental or other non-traditional formats (such as maps, interviews, dialogues, artworks, video, interactive data sets, etcetera) can be of variable length, but should be discussed with the editorial team prior to submission.

When submitting, authors should provide:

  1. A manuscript blinded for peer-review, including abstract and keywords (max. 6);
  2. A title page containing author information and contact information, as well as a short bibliography for all authors.

Peer Review Process
All submitted manuscripts are read by two members of the Editorial Board. Only those papers that seem most likely to meet our editorial criteria are sent for formal review. Those papers judged by the editors to be of insufficient general interest or otherwise inappropriate are rejected promptly without external review.

The Journal will make every effort to reach a decision on a manuscript within four months from date of submission; if you have not heard from the Journal about your manuscript within that period, please write to the Journal Manager.

Manuscripts judged to be of potential interest to our readership are sent for formal review, to two external reviewers. The editors then make a decision based on the reviewers' advice.
