Transformative Dying: A Curious History

Too often we think about dying as the last illness before death. However, the deeper meaning behind dying is not found in its physicality but rather its power to transform our identity. The nature of that transformative encounter with death has changed dramatically across human history. The tests, trials, and altered perceptions expected after our death, now largely occur before it.
