Samenvatting

This article presents reading experiences and a focused review of the book ‘Heavenly Green’, which aims to shed new light on sustainability as a biblical theme. The review focuses on the groaning of creation by the sin of man, both in the days of Paul and in current times of environmental degradation, the place of the Sabbath and the role of man in creation and in re-creation. It re-emphasises the place of the Sabbath and the priestly order of life in Israel, exemplified by this sanctified day. It critically examines the suggested similarity between the praise of God by creation and by mankind, and the proposed change of stewardship to alliance regarding the role of man in God’s creation. It concludes with giving more focus on the eternal Sabbath in which sin will be ended
and creation renewed.
