This article charts the Pentecostal theology of Rev. G. Boer, a household name in the Reformed churches in the Netherlands, and shows that, unlike like his spiritual mentor Rev. I. Kievit, he does not teach “second blessing.” Rather, since Pentecost the church has entered a new dispensation that calls for a spiritual life in the power of the Spirit. After outlining Boer’s theology, this article shows how this theology functions in his sermons to conclude that Christ’s crucifixion and the death of the old man receive greater emphasis than the resurrection of the new man and the filling with the Spirit and that, therefore, Christians ought to earnestly desire at the revelation of this eschatological fullness in Christ, through the Spirit.
