Samenvatting

Over the last decades many researchers in the field of religious education agree that
both words and visual images can be helpful in interpreting and appropriating faith.
However, because new evolving social media applications confront children with a constant flow of images, their use in liturgical settings does not automatically make sense.
This article focuses on the role images play in Christian formation practices such as
Sunday worship services, and under which specific conditions these images can be useful. In order to do so, this article will show that images can disclose new perspectives in
the appropriation of faith; that images should not be used uncritically; and will make
recommendations for an attentive and careful selection and presentation of images.
