Samenvatting

In more recent issues of Theologia Reformata one can observe a growing awareness that reformed theology can not continue to separate historical critical research fully from its confession of the bible as the Word of God. Modern methods of biblical scholarship should not be dismissed or avoided by claiming that such methods are just fruits of the world of Enlightenment and Rationalism. The reason is the fact that, whatever one may think of the hyptheses and answers it presents, the questions addressed by modern scholarship are not produced by Rationalism as such, they come from the complex material as we have it: manuscripts, fragments, ancient versions, archaeological materials. In the last ten or fifteen years authors in Theologia Reformata have begun to raise the hermeneutical questions that relate to the nature of the biblical materials actually present: should Gods way of speaking to us and preserving his Word for us have to be protected against history and the complex processes of textual transmission that we can observe?
