Samenvatting

Reformed theologians should have the courage to engage in a self-conscious dialogue with other theological movements as found in various churches. It can do so by reaching back to Reformed scholasticism which broadened the theological position of the Reformers by connecting with Patristic and even Medieval theology. Against modern correlational and even process-theology, which makes God dependent upon man, Reformed theology today should again stress the importance of the so-called non-communicable attributes, such as the eternity and the unchangeability of God. These constitute the presuppositions forming faith in God’s free and sovereign revelation and His grace. It should again emphasize not only the free will but also the unchangeable essence of God and by doing so, present a theology which is ontological as well as voluntaristic.
