Samenvatting

The question concerning the relation of baptism to sanctification and ethics has become relevant in the present situation of ‘Postchristendom’. Throughout the ages, we find on the fringe of the church the critique that infant baptism serves as main support for the ‘corpus christianum’. It raises the question whether the ‘new obedience’ baptism calls upon us to carry out, is sufficiently anchored in the Reformed doctrine of baptism. An answer is drawn up in dialogue with two theologians from the Reformed tradition, K. Barth and A. van de Beek, whom both have reflected deeply upon the relation between baptism, sanctification and ethics
