Samenvatting

An immediate answer to the question “What structure of the Church is the most suitable for the future” is not easy to give. A tension exists between the view of the Church as source of religious confidentiality and its empirical expression of belief. The Spirit draws its marks in time. Church canon seeks to give shape to Biblical principles holding for ecclesiastical life in relation to the concrete reality of a specific time, culture and society. Several distinguishing marks of the presbyterian-synodal system of church government are briefly covered. Discussion is invited on seven fields of tension regarding church order holding for the Protestant Church of The Netherlands.
