Samenvatting

Over the years, the confessionally Reformed in the Netherlands have charged Karl
Barth with not taking the concreteness of God’s work in history with sufficient seriousness.
This objection was especially developed with regard to Barth’s denials of general
revelation, of Scripture as the inspired Word of God and of any observable continuity
in the life of faith. Also, Barth’s allegedly thin account of ethics was a case in point. This
article deals with these issues, asking whether Barth was done justice to, and giving
some reasons for a renewed conversation with him.
