Samenvatting

The New Testament frequently speaks about Christian prophets and prophecy. In that
context the question is posed whether Christians could or should also acknowledge
Muhammad as a prophet or someone with a gift of prophecy. By a general review of the
character of prophecy in the New Testament, the conclusion is drawn that acknowledging
Muhammad as prophet would imply the need to test his prophecies in the light of the coming of Jesus Christ. That suggest at least that Muhammed by Christians is seen in a different light than by Muslims. Despite some positive evaluations by Christians in history, this research into New Testament prophecy doesn’t really change the overall critical Christian evaluation of Muhammad.
