Samenvatting

The curriculum for the training of future ministers of the Protestant Theological University, Groningen, presupposes an interaction between the History of Christian Doctrine and Symbolics. It is the task of theology to evaluate the confessional speech of the past and to prepare new confessional speech. This is possible, because in the Reformed expression of the catholic Church, the act of confessing develops. The teaching-program in which the basic forms of sacred doctrine are discussed, forms the framework within which various aspects of confessional speech find their proper place. These are: the challenges of the 16th century Reformation; the conversation with tradition in contemporary Dogmatics; the problems of the orthodox reformed approach, especially to that of ministry; and, commentary on the confessional texts listed in the Church Order of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands. The theological evaluation takes place under three headings: instructing the faith, answers for the faith, and deciding in faith.
