Samenvatting

Among Christians opinions about same-sex marriage vary widely. Some accept it as
equal to traditional marriage, others do not. Appeals to biblical authority in these discussions
also vary, including the questionable appeals to Leviticus. This article examines
how theologians evaluate the Mosaic prohibition of homosexuality in Leviticus 18
and 20. It will answer questions such as: Why do these prohibitions have authority,
while other prohibitions of the Mosaic Law do not? How did Calvin answer this question
and is his answer sufficient for our time and cultural context?
