Samenvatting

From 1563 to 1577 Zacharias Ursinus (1534-1583) lectured on the Heidelberg Catechism
at the University of Heidelberg. Edited by his student David Pareus (1584-1622), these
lectures form an important and authoritative source for any explanation of the
Heidelberg Catechism. Prior to Pareus’ publication, however, other students of Ursinus
also edited and published these lectures based on notes taken during the lectures.
Consequently, scholars are confronted with different editions of these lectures. This
article examines the backgrounds of various editions and offers suggestions for their
accurate use in understanding the Heidelberg Catechism.
