Tot God bidden in een seculiere wereld
Samenvatting
This article discusses how West-European society presents a strong secular world view that challenges a practice fundamental to religion, prayer. Feuerbach argued that “once a man realizes that his life is determined by the natural order, he will not pray.” New and vigorous practices of prayer have been introduced by immigrant churches that pray for material welfare and prosperity, and by Islamic communities with a strong ritual practice of prayer. In the light of these realities this article constructs a Christian theology of prayer by analyzing the human awareness of God’s presence in the act of prayer, and argues that in addition to the mental process and the noetic content of prayer, the petitioner addresses God as the Other.
