Because pop-music in our time has become a crucial connecting factor for many theological commentary on this aspect of our common culture is desirable. As a mirror of our time the gift of music helps us to understand the spirit of the age. In the surprising ways of sound and language, this music can also express deep existential and religious feelings. Pop-music has also influenced Christian musical culture and liturgy. In line with the thought of Luther and Calvin, this article recognizes that music, including pop-music, as a gift of God the Creator, a gift with signs of his Spirit and universal grace. Combining the result of participant observation with a phenomenological approach this article shows that contemporary pop-music has positive significance for today’s believer.
