Samenvatting

The traditional practice of the minister concluding a pastoral conversation with prayer
has received some criticism. Research into such pastoral visits, however, shows that
such visits continue and that they are often appreciated. From the perspective of prayer
as a ritual and as a performance this essay proposes a renewed appreciation of this
traditional practice in pastoral care.
