Samenvatting

This article interacts critically with the current hypothesis in Old Testament studies that reduces its theological claim of YHWH’s incomparability to a sociological antithesis between the “we” (Israel, true believers) and the “they” (other peoples, unbelievers). The article demonstrates that YHWH’s incomparability is evident from the divine attributes of omnipresence, grace, and foreknowledge, thereby defining Him as unique as the One who brings true salvation to his own people Israel and to the peoples from Gentile nations. The Christian conception of God differs from both primitive polytheism and philosophical monotheism.
