Samenvatting

This article challenges the general assumption that the New Testament, in distinction from the Old Testament, must first and foremost be read as a book of love, peace and non-violence. Various sayings of Jesus, some fear-provoking actions or written warnings from the apostles, and many passages in the book of Revelation show that the God of the New Testament is also ‘dangerous’. Nevertheless, God is definitely ‘not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance’ (2 Peter 3:9).
