Samenvatting

The talent project of F. van Heek (Het verborgen talent, the hidden talent Meppel: Boom, 1968) concluded that the criteria for pursuing education are not related to class differences. The division of students into groups which had a relatively similar chance to continue their education was based on predictive scores determined by a standardized test. It was possible to extrapolate achievement rather than predictive scores by eliminating certain sections of the test which were felt to be influenced by environment. Judged on the basis of these achievement tests, it was found that less than 50% of the boys from families engaged in unskilled work who would have been expected to continue their education actually did so, whereas 134% of the boys and 157% of the girls from hs families did so. Environmental factors are indeed important. 7 tables. P. Tiersma.
