Samenvatting

Educational literature is now focusing increasingly on the influence of social processes on student achievement. Although this may lead to important insights into factors determining success, actors other than the teacher also affect achievement, eg, parents. A model analyzing the distribution of the teacher's time & attention demonstrates the influence that parents can exert. Special attention is given to the designation of some children as problem students & the increasing frequency of their referral to special education programs. 5 Figures.
