Samenvatting

F. van Heek ("Verborgen Talenten" [Hidden Talents], Sociologische Gids, 1972, Jul-Aug) reported on the major conclusions of the "Talent Project." J. A. van Kemenade & J. A. Kropman later criticized van Heek's work. Both agree that children from lower SC's have less chance for successfully completing preparatory secondary education. Differences in the definition of the term "school suitability" are discussed & the methodology for determining this is defended. A. H. Boon van Ostade objects to the fact that the Talent Project limited itself to 12% of the most suitable students, a criticism which is not valid. The "reaction effect" which Boon van Ostade supposes took place could not have occurred because the headmasters in the schools under study were not aware of the real purpose of the project. P.
