Samenvatting

A rebuttal is presented to criticisms in Wilhelmina van Wetering's "Een criminologisch alternatief voor de studie van jeugddelinquentie" ([A Criminological Alternative for Studying Juvenile Delinquency] see SA 40:5/92Z3604) of Marianne Junger's Delinquency and Ethnicity: An Investigation on Social Factors Relating to Delinquency among Moroccan, Turkish, Surinamese, and Dutch Boys (Deventer: Kluver Law & Taxation, 1990). The main theoretical & practical approaches of the original work are clarified. The conclusion remains valid that boys from ethnic minorities are more apt to become involved in crime than are Dutch boys of similar socioeconomic background. Results support social control theory as an explanation of crime for each ethnic group; however, they do not support subculture or strain theory. In Dupliek: Delinquente jongeren opnieuw bekeken (Reply: Once Again about Delinquency), van Wetering reasserts her earlier arguments using different examples. 4 Tables, 40 References.
