Samenvatting

Reports a 26 June 1998 debate, inspired by a thematic issue of this journal (1997, 44, 5-6), in which two books about the 1960s in the Netherlands were critiqued: Hans Righart's De eindeloze jaren zestig: Geschiedenis van een generatieconflict ([The Endless Sixties: History of a Generation Conflict] 1995); & J. C. Kennedy's Nieuw Babylon in aanbouw: Nederland in de jaren zestig ([Building New Babylon: The Netherlands in the Nineteen Sixties] 1995). Structural approaches to the social changes of the 1960s, nationally vs internationally oriented research perspectives, the use of generational sociology, & comparisons with other social systems (eg, the Catholic Church) are addressed; problems regarding the delimitation of the relevant era (ie, 1960s only vs inclusion of the late 1950s & 1970s) are also discussed. 3 References.
