A critique of the book The political control of Czechoslovakia: a study in social control of a Soviet satellite state (Leiden, the Netherlands: 1953) by I. Gadourek, centered on its use of the concept of 'social control.' Gadourek is said to have taken little pain over a theoretical definition of this concept, to which he devotes only 2.5 pages. He is concerned mostly with an 'operational' definition and uses definitions by Ross, Bernard and G. Gurvitch without adding much of his own. His use of the term 'sociological space' is static, whereas Gurvitch uses it in a dynamic way. I. Langnas.
