Samenvatting

In P. J. Bouman's book Sociology, Concepts and Problems, 'good' in the sociological terminology means: that which preserves community life, 'bad' the disintegration of it. Bouman's standard of value, however, is not useful, as the concepts 'disintegrating' and constructive' with regard to culture, are not mutually exclusive. The evolutionists for example regard both concepts as non-distinct contraries. In sociology it is possible to value one and the same phenomenon alternately as positive and negative. The criteria of 'good' and 'bad' by Bouman are based on pure static situations. M.O.L. Klein.
