Samenvatting

A report on the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in dealing with the Research Center for Group Dynamics created by the late Kurt Lewin. Its aims are: (1) to develop theories which explain group behavior, relations between groups, and individual adaptations to groups with special reference to 'leadership'; (2) to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and practical 'social action'; (3) to operate an educational and training program. The chief subjects of its research are outlined: group productivity, COMM and spread of influence, social perception, relations, esp conflicts, between groups, influence of leadership, training of leaders, and research techniques. The activities of the Center, and of the Institute of which it forms a part, are not unique; they are typical of many such institutes for sociological research in the US. I. Langnas.
