Samenvatting

An account of the work of the French sociologist Paul H. Maucorps. Maucorps is very interested in theory but always in connection with practical research. His theoretical concepts are related to those of G. Gurvitch; his practical methods approach those of J. L. Moreno and P. Lazarsfeld. Groups are analyzed in terms of messages and receptions, DofL and cooperation, competing att's and common information. These methods were applied by Maucorps to analyze the structure of groups like the factory or the army unit. His Sociometric tests in the French army (New York, 1950) has been widely read and applied in French and US military circles. His Psychologie des mouvements sociaux (Psychology of Social Movements, Paris, no date) shows a reluctance to indulge in macrosociological calculations, which is contrasted favorably with the 'fantasies' of J. L. Moreno. I. Langnas.
