Second part of a survey report on Caribbean sociology devoted to the work of the Institute of Social and Economic Research of the University Coll. of the West Indies near Kingston (Jamaica). Among the members of the Institute are 3 English-trained sociologists, L. E. Braithwaite, M. G. Smith and R. T. Smith, whose work is often published in the journal Social and Economic Studies of the Institute. They have studied social change in the West Indies, family structure, village communities, social stratification and cultural integration and the functioning of the labor market in the countryside.
