An editorial on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the starting of the journal. The 1st 2 years of existence were a testing period; the test has been passed and the magazine is now firmly established. It was founded by a group of young sociologists as a discussion forum, a source of information on new developments, and an organ of critical evaluation. It has been critized for failing to achieve 'a point of view of its own.' This criticism is unjustified inasmuch as the magazine is acting as a forum; but there is some justification in view of the failure of many contributors to present specific viewpoints. With regard to the controversy between those who emphasize practical problems and those who are more interested in theoretical speculations, the Ed's propose to hold a middle view, which stresses an independent analysis of present realities in their essential characteristics. A program for the future is outlined, with special issues planned, eg on social work and medical sociology. I. Langnas.
