Samenvatting

An estimate of the value of regional and local studies for an analysis of social behavior. The following advantages are listed: (1) Such studies make visible various types of social diff'iation; (2) they offer an antidote to the view that human beings are primarily the representatives of groups; (3) they provide material for studying political tensions; (4) they indicate the local determinants of political beliefs; (5) they offer clues to latent political att's of authorities; (6) they show political org's in actual action; and (7) they reveal power relationships as they affect local problems and interests.
