A study of the changing structure of the Israeli kibbutz, based on a study of the literature and personal observations. It is a partial summary of a PhD dissertation for the University of Utrecht. The processes of SR in the kibbutzim are described and analyzed. It is shown that a spontaneous and more or less homogeneous group developed into a more heterogeneous one, in which processes of subgroup articulation and segmentations of spheres of activity took place. Attention was paid in particular to the diffential development of social control patterns in the work relations of the production sector, the service system, and the central authority positions. It is suggested that these internal trends have to be viewed in relation to the development of the surrounding social system, ie as the functional 'answer' of the kibbutzim to the weakening of the external stress, the stabilization of organizational relations of society, and the Urbanization of the country.
