A comment on a research project presented in L. Festinger, H. W. Rieken and S. Schacter, When prophecy fails. The project investigated a religious group which believed that the end of the world would happen on the current Dec 21 and that members would be saved by a flying source. The researchers joined the sect and participated in its activities, without revealing their scientific purposes. This is judged to be 'ethically inadmissible' and compared to the action of Nazi MD's who exp'ed in concentration camps. It is also compared with an Amsterdam investigation of the Lou men (adherents of a fisherman who claimed to be God) in which the researchers presented themselves as interested O's. 1. Lananas.
