Samenvatting

After a period of a philosophically oriented sociology in Germany, West German sociology oriented itself to new forms more adapted to industrial society. However, it has not succeeded in both saving the philosophical tradition and also reaching high levels in modern sci as it is being pursued in other Western countries. Because of a limited COMM between sci'ts in West Germany, no new concepts have been developed and this lack of generally accepted new concepts has hampered the COMM process. The West German sociol'ts point to the general aloofness of soc sci'ts from society as one of their main difficulties; and this is partly caused by a lack of consensus about what it means for these people to live in the soc system. The adoption of sociological systems from abroad has been suggested by some students but rejected by others who want to find their way on their own. Modified AA.
