Personnel resistance to the introduction of automation

Samenvatting

A study of the resistance of personnel to the introduction of automation, based on an examination of the relevant US literature. Human resistance is said to be the greatest obstacle to the introduction of automation, and failure to realize its presence and importance is the greatest possible risk of such an introduction. The theoretical aspects of this resistance are explained with the aid of L. Coch and J. R. P. French Jr., 'Some Problems of Organizational Change,' in Journal of Social Issues, 1948, 4, 1; and the practical consequences are explained by a case reported in F. C. Mann and L. K. Williams, 'Observations on the Dynamics of a Change to Electronic Data Processing Equipment' (unpublished interim report to the Survey Res. Center, Ann Arbor, Mich, 1960). 1. Langnas.
