Prestige en belangstelling

Samenvatting

In the teams of the Zaandam football club the relation between the prestige of team, based on the official classification by the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB), (a) the interest in the club as a whole, and (b) the interest in the team by its members, were studied. The data were collected by a mail and by interviewing. Comparisons are chiefly made between the club's most central team (highest in official prestige and highest in interest shown by the club members) and the most peripheral team (lowest in both respects). The results are: (1) A positive relation was obtained between the official prestige of a team and the amount of interest in it by the other club members. (2) There is no indication of a relation between prestige and interest in the football club as a whole. (3) A positive relation was obtained between the prestige position of a team and the amount of interest shown by its own members. AA.
