Samenvatting

A report is presented on the first conference of Belgian and Dutch sociologists, held at Antwerp (Belgium) in June 1961. The following areas were treated: (1) methods and techniques of research; (2) ecology and space ordering; (3) social stratification and SM; (4) industrial sociology; and (5) religious sociology. Contributors included: J.A.A. van Doorn, 'The State of Dutch Sociology,' who presented a brief history and accounted for the role of sociology in the Dutch 'fatherless society' in which ideas clash; F. van Mechelen, 'The State of Belgian Sociology,' who stated that Belgian sociology is still taught within the academic framework of the Faculty of Law, and asked for the establishment of a licence (roughly, BA degree) in sociology; and M. Lamberty on the sociology of Flemish-Walloon relations, who stressed the possible contributions of a sociological study of these relations. I. Langnas.
