Samenvatting

The sociology program of the University of Nijmegen is presented. The program had to be prepared to fit into a framework provided by the Dutch Law on Higher Education. The program is divided into 2 stages: (1) preparation for the candidacy to the doctorate, and (2) preparation for the doctorate itself. The sociological Institute of the University supervises the student's work, which includes a 'stage' at an outside instit which provides practical experience and a piece of theoretical research under a member of the Instit. Specialization is provided in the following fields: (a) social research; (b) theoretical research; (c) labor and industry; (d) social work; (e) government; (f) political sociology; and (g) journalism.
