Sociologie in Nederland

Samenvatting

An estimate is presented of 10 years of Dutch sociology, as reflected in the pages of Sociologische Gids, by a representative of the 'older generation.' Sociology has become more specialized, and there is an increasing emphasis on empirical-mathematical studies. These 2 tendencies are to be welcomed; but they should not lead to the neglect of theory and values or of the great sociological tradition of E. Durkheim, G. Simmel and M. Weber. The Gids, with its 'comprehensive' policy, does good work in the direction of preventing new tendencies from becoming extreme. I. Langnas.
