Samenvatting

An examination of the sociological implications of the Dutch word beleid, translatable as gov, authority, policy, control, prudence, sagacity etc. The various meanings of the word are outlined and it is noted that sociology is primarily concerned with 'social' beleid. Beleid is used in sociology as a neutral term, eg when it is applied to the Ku Klux Klan. As in all social sciences, its primary meaning in sociology is that of 'control.' Sociology studies the bearers, decisions, concepts, means and processes of social control. It is particularly concerned with control with regard to social change and practical adaptation of theories through advising, eg in industr sociol. Some methodological questions involved in advising are examined. I. Langnas.
