Samenvatting

A report on a survey of workers' participation in Dutch factories. Sociol students participating in a workshop at the University of Leiden in the academic year 1963-64 were permitted by the management of 10 factories to survey the opinions of workers and to observe meetings of works councils. The students used 2 sets of questions developed in a C.O.P. survey of attitudes to works councils, pertaining to workers' evaluation of their participation in decisions and to their attitudes to works councils. From statistical data presented in 5 tables, it is concluded that employers and workers differ in their diagnosis of both the facts and normative attitudes about participation. But their opposition has become de-ideologized and expresses itself in differing judgments on practical issues arising from the day-to-day functioning of the factories. The attitudes of the workers are, on the whole, more de-ideologized than those of the employers. I. Langnas.
