A critique of the critique by W. Petersen. Petersen noted that other writers, including M. Weber, have used the terms 'modern-dynamic' and 'traditional' with reference to cultural patterns; but this fact, it is claimed, in no way affects the validity of Hofstee's theories. For the rest, Petersen's article offers little that is new to the Dutch reader and ignores the recent literature on Dutch and Belgian demographic changes. I. Langnas
