Samenvatting

A report on the selection and application of a method of surveying Dutch listening and viewing habits. The survey was ordered by the Dutch Radio Union/Dutch TV Foundation (NRT/ NTS) from the Hilversum Instit for Applied Market Res INTOMART. The instit worked from Jan 1962 to Sep 1964 to develop a suitable method for a countrywide inquiry. Global objective and global subjective methods were rejected for 'coincidental res.' An investigation of written and oral methods produced a combination of a basic questionaire and a diary. 2 panels were selected, each to keep an alternate weekly diary for radio listening and TV viewing. The survey started operating on Jan 1, 1965, with 3,192 registered participants. On Oct 1, 1965, 2,552 (79.7%) were still participating. In Jan 1966, there was a replacement of 13% of the panels in order to continue the survey. By Oct 1, 1965, 82.5% of the participants produced usable diaries. I. Langnas.
