A rejoinder to J. Van Doorn's critique of the author's book on Israel (see SA 0715/E3072). Van Doorn's serious intentions are recognized and some of his detailed criticisms are refuted or acknowledged. As for the central point of Van Doorn's critique, the role of Israel as a latecomer among the nations, some of the consequences he draws are convincing; but his views on Israeli nat'lism, militarism and colonialism are unacceptable.
