Samenvatting

In the evolution of sociology in Latin-America, there are 3 phases: (1) The period of the pensadores, comparable to the French philosophers; their problematics are nation-forming, and the unity of the people. (2) This period began around 1900 with the recognition of the U status, within which faculties have a long tradition in the education of the leading and intellectual cadre of the Latin-American aristocrat, who from long past, have been anti-American. The theories of Marx have thus been much more easily accepted by the left-leaning political dimension of Latin-America. (3) The 'social issue' in Latin-America started in the 30's, with technological changes and economic development. The elite groups in Latin-America reflect European ideological thought, but find themselves in a political schizoid frame of mind. Ideologists (students and intellectuals), and power belonging to the military structures are the 2 most important factors in Latin American politics. A well-known figure in Latin American politics is the union-leader. The general population is passive and powerless. D. Ridgway.
