Contributions of demographic research

Samenvatting

Demography has concerned itself recently more with the accumulation of data than with attempts to explain that data. The reason may be that the leaders of the field were educated in a time when the social sciences were not as developed as they are now. 550 participants presented some 280 contributions which could be divided into the following categories: mathematical demography, fertility, deaths, family planning, economy, differential fertility, education and demographic factors, nuptiality, divorce, household studies, historical demography, demographic education, migration, urbanization, and world population. There were important contributions on the potential role of sociology to the theoretical aspect of the science, migration theory, and the relationship between the level of education and demographic factors.
